subject: RFID Tracks Officials At Summit

Hi George...

SA> Bug devices track officials at summit

 SA> By Audrey Hudson
 SA> THE WASHINGTON TIMES

SA> Officials who attended a world Internet and technology summit
SA> in Switzerland last week were unknowingly bugged, said researchers
 SA> who attended the forum.

GP> The AUDACITY of some people, eh?

GP> Did they ever ID who was behind the bugging, and/or what the apparent
GP> purpose was?

The apparent purpose was access control & security of those attending
the summit, but a number of people attempted to find out how the
collected data was to be stored & secured, and what it would be used
for, without success.

The provision of the RFID cards & other aspects of access & security
was apparently outsourced to SportAccess -
http://www.sportaccess.com/e_index.html (the English index doesn't appear
to work & it shows up in French on my browser), which specialises in
multifunction smart card access to sporting events, etc.

SportAccess in turn is a subsidiary of Kudelski Group -
http://www.kudelski.com/ - which has digital television & broadband
networks applications as well as smart card, ticketing etc.

The data collected from attendees at the technology summit could be
quite valuable; if people went into, say, a presentation on RFID
access control, they might be spammed later by companies dealing
in such things.

I have attended computer & IT exhibitions here in past years; I'll
think twice if I suspect my movements are being tracked around the
exhibition hall :(

Cheers, Steve..
