TH> Will any Atari programs play .MOD (PC) music files? Or
TH> convert them?
A bit like asking if a frog can jump.
Atari's are music machines. Of course they can! :) There are a ton of
ST/e/TT/Falcon MOD players out there.
The old (pre-STe) ST's have the most limitations, since they must use
the Yamaha sound chip in them to play them. The resulting sound quality
is lower.
As of the STe, you have "DMA-audio", which can achieve high quality
audio.
The faster your machine, the better. And the Falcon can play 8-voice
16-bit quality sound _in_the_background_ via its DSP, with the proper
player.
A MOD player ACCessory that let's any STe/TT user play music in the
background is "Paula". A utility called "Petra" allows Paula to work on
older ST's as well. The faster your machine, the higher quality you can
play w/o significant slowdown.
A good MOD player/editor for the ST/e/TT is "DigiComposer". It is my
personal favorite.
For simply playing MODs, try "AG-Tracker 1.2". I am unfamilar with the
Falcon players. For the STe/TT only, "Pro_50Hz" is a great "play-only"
player with the highest quality a plain-Jane STe can acheive.
BTW: ".MOD" is not a "PC" format. It is an "Amiga" convention that most
other platforms learned to support. PC-MOD players were among the last
to appear.
