Hello Gerald,
GM> You did contribute something, I'm sure;
I think I only made a suggestion about how to overwrite text on screen.
GM> Don't want to change the extension to BTM...
It would be cool if 4dos tried to load a btm before a bat.
GM> My batch file runs in what I call the [Common] section of my
GM> AUTOEXEC.BAT file. That is, this section runs whether I'm booting
GM> COMMAND.COM, 4DOS, or WINDOWS
You could have a separate 4dos section here. Say to run a btm instead
of a bat. It is an interesting challenge to make a few batchfiles run
under either but if they are separate they are easier to debug/maintain.
BTW, I tried to send you a netmail but your node caused a bounce.
here it is.
* Replying to a message in : BATPOWER
GM> [despite the nagscreen displayed by CHKDSK to run SCANDISK instead]
I killed this message on msdos v6.20 years ago by using a hex editor.
It has never caused a problem.
Backup and unpack chkdsk.exe. (I use UNP.EXE)
Find the beginning of the string you want to remove and
overwrite a char0 there. not an ascii 0
understand? Leave a 0d,0a or two before the 0. If you overwrite the
whole text with zeros it will compress a little tighter.
Regards, Barry
