Continued from previous message.
off for clouds on June 17th. The crew set up anyway, and, lo!, it did
clear up somewhat late at night. No large crowd, but enough folk came
for good banter. We now take a break in July and August, to resume in
September. See you then!
City news
-------
With this issues of NYC Events I discontinue my chitchat about
urban activity in New York. I was saying nothing more than what is in
the general news media, both local and global. In place of the City
items, I move the 'THAT Section' contents to here.
AAA lapsed into a detente with NYSkies at the June 17th Floyd
Bennett Field starviewing. No crazy blowups this time. Even Richard
Rosenberg grudingly agrees that the cosponsorship of the event meets
his own April 2005 proposal that the two clubs work together. Richard
is chair of Amateur Astronomers Association's Observing Group, among
other club management functions.
In spite of the detente, AAA continues its pogrom to silence
opposition and criticism, perhaps with more 'expulsions' and
'evictions'. These are hallmarks of a club leadership who has little
legitimacy left. Yet, under the noses of these Stalinists, in June,
informal discussion were heard about NYSkies-AAA cooperation with
Cadman Plaza and Carl Schurz Park.
NYSkies
-----
Astronomers are exploiting NYSkies as a quick, handy, friendly,
and potent source of astronomy news relating to the City. And there is
LOTS of astronomy stuff going on around New York! Since it revived on
28 September 2001 (it was interrupted by World Trade Center) NYSkies
became the definitive forum and public record for matters bearing on
home astronomy in and around New York.
Joining NYSkies is easy. Send an empty email to this Yahoogroup
maillist at 'nysky-subscribe{at}yahoogroups.com'. Its posts are sent to
you in your email and you post to it by email. It's that simple!
Or you may go to 'groups.yahoo.com/group/nysky'. If you are
already signed up with Yahoo, you go and sign in and then 'join'
NYSkies. If not, you have to go thru a silly 'registration' that's a
one shot chore, valid for all groups you may eventually join. The
files area of NYSkies are accessible only thru the website.
