Bad times for Arrows (8-Oct-98) - The announcement of Sauber that it signed Pedro Diniz for next season was a setback for the Arrows team of Tom Walkinshaw. It is no secret that Diniz is bringing a lot of sponsorship money with him which was very welcome at Arrows which is on a tight budget while even having to develop it's own engine. Walkinshaw is therefore keen to retrain the services of Finn Mika Salo while looking to fill the place left by Diniz by a paying driver. Possible drivers for this seat include Jordan test driver Pedro de la Rosa and Tyrrell-drivers Ricardo Rosset and Toranosuke Takagi. Walkinshaw is also in trouble at the design department with former Ferrari-designer John Barnard believed to have left the team. Gary Anderson, who has left the Jordan team after the arrival of Mike Gascoyne, was interested to join Walkinshaw but decided to join the Stewart team. It's still also unsure which engine is going to power the 1999 Arrows. Arrows' own engine which is developed together with Brian Hart is still lacking reliability and power and Walkinshaw is therefore looking for a third-part supplier. So far without any success after having failed to secure a Mecachrome / SuperTec Sport deal. --- Msged/386 4.20 beta 4* Origin: Blizzard of Ozz, Melbourne, Australia (3:635/728.4{at}fidonet) SEEN-BY: 633/267 270 @PATH: 633/267 |
