subject: [was] Locking Windows [now] Fantastic Lantastic

Hi Lance,

When I was writing my network OS, Lantastic did not use the SMB protocol and as
such would not link in with IBM or any MS-Net based lans. This may have changed
with their later Windoze versions, but their early DOS only stuff was
proprietary. The best, if not only way to get a XT running DOS linked into a
Windows network would be to use either, IBM PC-Lan or 3-Com ( I forget what they
called it ) or some other OEM implementation of MS-NET. The downside is that
you can expect to see 48k being needed for the basic NetBIOS drivers for the
card and another 48-96k being required by the redirector, so expect a basic over
head of about 128kb. Although you've got one show-stopper before you start, and
that will be neither of those products would/will support the proprietary
Lantastic Cards. To make this even a little tougher, there were a few different
versions of the proprietary Lantastic Cards and later versions of the software
did drop support for some of their earlier cards.

I know this message doesn't give you the answer you were seeking, but sometimes
it can help to know which way the wind is blowing before you start pissing :)

Cheers, Brenton
