From: "Brenton" Reply-To: Brenton , Fidonet AVtech Echo Hi Folks, Let me preface this message by saying that I have absolutely no interest in sports, so whatever the outcome, I'm not really bothered one way or the other. With all of the media hoo-haa over this thing with Ian Thorpe being disqualified from the 400metre Olympic Trials, I think I have missed something. I thought the media went nuts because at the trials Thorpe fell into the pool and under current IOC rules he was disqualified. So, they ran the race without him and the bloke who won was given a free ticket to Athens or wherever the Olympics are going to be. It seems that before the bloke who won the trial even got out of the pool, the media were pushing the line that he should surrended the place he just earned and give it to Ian Thorpe. Then yesterday he does just that. So, what happens here, does he just say, " I give up, I don't want to go, give my place to Thorpe " ... How does this work. I mean either the bloke was good enough to possibly beat Thorpe or he wasn't. If he wasn't then how in the hell did he get into the trials ? Now that he has done his dummy spit, shouldn't his place go to the bloke who came second ? After all, Thorpe was disqualified. So how can he even be considered when he didn't even swim in the 400 meters at the trials ? Confused, Brenton --- ifmail v.2.15* Origin: VideoCam Services WEB (http://vcsweb.com/) (3:800/221{at}fidonet) SEEN-BY: 633/104 260 262 267 270 285 640/296 305 384 531 954 690/734 712/848 SEEN-BY: 774/605 800/221 445 @PATH: 800/221 640/954 633/260 267 |
