Does the idea of an open standard work for you, one that could be used
by anyone who liked the idea? I wouldn't mind seeing that in MBSE BBS
too, or at least make it available to the authors to use if he/she
likes the idea.

I use telnetd-ssl here, I don't know if that really does anything or
not. I had hoped that usernames and passwords were not sent in clear
text but I'm not sure how to test that theory. It must require the user
to login with a supported telnet-ssl implementation but I'm not sure how
that works.
