Well, under the last one that ran around my guns all became illegal,
with the exception of the .22.  My huge old bolt action rifle, illegal.
It was a military weapon.  My 30-06 semiauto, illegal.  It to was a
military weapon.  Even my 1916 Winchester shotgun, illegal.  There was a
derivation of it used by the military.  The .22 only squeeked by because
they changed the magazine restrictions, at first, the .22 was illegal
too.  So I'm not very impressed by the assault weapons bans.  Besides, I
know of several people that deer hunt quite successully with AK47's.

How does a waiting period help?  The background check can be done in a
matter of seconds.  The waiting period means that if you've waited until
the last second to attempt to defend yourself, you will not be able to.
Perhaps its just me, but that doesn't seem like such a hot idea.  The
California riots when the Rodney King verdict was handed down comes to
mind.  Strange how those armed areas didn't get torched or looted.  I'm
sure all those shop and home owners who attempted to get a gun to defend
themselves were grateful a waiting period was in effect to help them get
burned to the ground.  That helped a lot.  Why if we didn't have that
waiting period, we wouldn't have had such a good looting session.
