Nah, I just pulled the setscrew out, stuck the CD-RW drive in, and
installed EasyCD Creator.

With EZCD 5, if you don't install the patch IMMEDIATELY after installing
the original version, before rebooting, EZCD will mess with the CD driver
in XP and the drive may disappear from Device Manager. You can change
"may" to "will" if you install DirectCD.

My old Thinkpad has been behaving perfectly for the past month, so I'm
going to leave the "new" one, just back from its trip to IBM
service, at home until the old one starts messing up again.  It's a shock
to see the two systems side by side, one of them dusty and with a nicotine
film, and the other spotless and new looking.
