That sounds like a bug, probably unintended and probably not too hard to fix.

I don't know who created or maintains that software, but is it possible to
get a bugfix upgrade? You are going to have to jump through hopes to get
around this.
I used to use a very simple and efficient program called CFRoute to pack
*.msg to my bso outbound many years go. I don't know if that would work for
what you need or not.
