From: "Brenton" Reply-To: Brenton , Fidonet AVtech Echo Hi Bob, > I used to chat in real-time on the local BBS, but even then > I realised how stupid it was. >That's why god invented the telephone. You've got no idea how true that is. Sadly, the kids of today along with a lot of other people, won't use the telephone. Instead they will send 100 Email or SMS messages which might take a day or two, instead of picking up a telephone and having a 30 second conversation. In Internet Forums and mail-lists, people will ask all sorts of stupid questions. They will get one or two genuine quality replies and perhaps a phone number to call to get something clarified. Insetad of using the telephone and dialing the number provided to them, they will fuck around with Email messaegs for another two weeks and continue to get the wrong information. Then stuff-up whatever it was they were trying to do. A sane person would think that they might learn something from this experience and try to get it right next time, but no, next time they will do it all over again. Another thing that shits me about Internet mail-lists and Email is the way people don't even read a message before reaching for the mouse and hitting the reply button. Then they won't trim the reply and you get 20 or 30kb of crap you've got to wade through and all the ding-bat has said is " yair ". I think it is all part of the "give it to me, and give it to me NOW" mentality that people have developed. I don't know what the answer is to that one because it is getting worse, not better.
