You might try an email to Jerry Gause, gpgause (at) pdn (dot) net.
He is running a telnet connection, using Maximus as the BBS behind it,
and with OS/2 as his operating system. I suspect that he is using SIO
and Vmodem to accomplish it.

Another person I know of is Charlie Waters at neverending.com. I don't
know what operating system he is using, but you might ask him.
