BF>> We haven't been there yet.

 SH> Count yourself lucky.:-)

I am.

SH> The oil burner heats air which is forced through ducts to registers in
SH> rooms and then is returned to the furnace through cold air returns. The
SH> same system is also used with natural gas burners or electric furnaces.

Ok. This is something we don't have.
We only use water-carried heat so you can eiter heat with oil, wood, pellet
or a heatpump.

SH> SDee: http://www.hometips/content/forcedair_intro.html

That site was under construction, and you had forgotten the .ca

SH> Is a coupe heater what we call an in-car heater? If so, I have one but
 SH> don't use it.

It must be and I use mine.

SH> I put a set of Bridgestone Blizzaks on in November and so far they are
 SH> just fine.

I use Cooper tires.
Do you have spikes in yours?

 SH> I don't know what I'd find in a hole 130 m down but I doubt that it would
SH> be water so it's back to a more conventional heating system.

Don't you have any ground-water?
I also have an own drilled well that's 78 m deep for drinking water and it
tastes so good. It's something else then the "town water" with
all its chemicals.

SH> We deal with litres and I can reasonably expect to burn about 4000 litres
SH> per year. I can live with that as our house is large (232.25 m2) and you
SH> already know it can get frighteningly cold.

4 m3 isn't that much considering the size of the house and the cold.

SH> No fuel is cheap here and wood won't do the job so oil is the bast of a
SH> bad lot. However, my tank is above ground so inspection costs are not an
 SH> issue.

The new law here says that even if you have the tank above ground you have to
wall it in in case of a leak.
