subject: When George is a disorde [2]

JB> How many people had laser surgery under the advice of a physician, and
JB> are now hitting the mid-life stretch? I've heard even tri-focal lenses
JB> can't restore their vision, and as near-sighted as they used to be,
JB> they are twice the amount far-sighted now.

 Good question. :(

Just as soon as this option came out every tom dick and harry jumped
on the greed wagon and used it as fast way to make money....
Thankfully there are LAWS that regulate this treatment and doctors
will NOT perform it on high risk patients for libiltiy reasons.

Just like anything (breast implants for example)- this procedure is not
a instant fixie permanent fixie miracle at all. And all of those
people who have had it done have been guinea pigs for the next
generations.

So far as I know the best candidates are those who have nearly perfect
vision already but simply do not want to have to wear glasses or
contact lenses. So far the technology has not been deemed advanced
enough to assure success with those of us with more severe vision
loss. Someday maybe yes, but not right now. A few more generations of
willing human guinea pigs perhaps is needed.

BM> It gets old really fast, especially if they keep making an issue of it.

Yeah. Issues tend to get old fast. Take on a new face in some other
way...

JB> Like that person that attempts to wrestle the door from you to 'help',
JB> how many times have I been viewed with scorn because I will not
JB> consider, or press for a hip replacement?

Hip replacement is just like the eye thing. When my dad had his done,
he thought it was permanent. It's not. These procedures are all fairly
new and the 'bugs' have not all been worked out. (Different materials
are tried ie as for bone replacements.)

happy note! Did any of you see anything about this growing blood
vessels from a patient's own skin... I'll go find it. It's being tried
for Dialysis patients. (The article cited two patients from Argentina.
Why Argentina? I don't know. Easy test Subjects I guess.

JB> when my hip joint has taken as much abuse as it can, THEN a titanium

JB> another useless procedure. Well, useless to me anyway.

yeah and who knows by the time that time comes there may be a better
material.. :) My dad had the steel. Now they use pvc plastic in some
cases.. (ugh)... I'm thinking eventually we'll get the stem cell
research going and be able to GROW new tissue instead of invading our
bodies with those artificial/ man made materials..

lobe implants?"
 > CH> 7Oh something like that...

JB> Maybe Cindy needs to retort, "No, I can't hear a thing!"

Hehe...I just roll my eyes now and walk away if someone brings that
topic up. It's just not worth the boiling point overflow the listener
will not comprehend But on the other hand we DO need to help the poor
hearing world KNOW what is what about hearing loss. It's a TIRESOME
task, but how else shall they learn if not from the best source
available. US *(rather than stupid so called 'experts' who being
hearing, actually have no clue at all whatsoever. Please do get me started
on the 'ten myths of hearing loss' .. I'll explain but let me get a strong
drink first. I don't drink much mind you but that topic would
definitely require some sort of very strong emotion(volcano) suppressant.
