Hungarian GP organizers to ask for postponement of fine Copyright c 1998 Nando Media Copyright c 1998 Agence France-Presse BUDAPEST (Oct 21, 1998 - 15:20 EDT) - Organisers of the Hungarian Grand Prix will ask the International Automobile Federation (FIA) to postpone payment of a $250,000 fine imposed after fans invaded the track after August's race, they said Wednesday. "We shall ask FIA to postpone payment of the fine. If they refuse, we shall pay the fine from loans," the MTI news agency quoted the head of Hungaroring Sports, Janos Berenyi, as saying. Berenyi was speaking at a hearing of parliament's Youth and Sports committee, which discussed a draft aimed at boosting security at sports events. FIA imposed a million dollar fine on the Hungaroring on October 15, with $750,000 suspended unless a similar incident happens at the Hungaroring venue either next year or in 2000. --- Msged/386 4.20 beta 4* Origin: Blizzard of Ozz, Melbourne, Australia (3:635/728.4{at}fidonet) SEEN-BY: 633/267 270 @PATH: 633/267 |
