Pork and shellfish were declared "ritually unclean" for the
nation of Israel.

Some try to argue it was at that time, because at that time, without
refrigeration/etc., these foods were particularly unhealthy.

But God never says such a thing -- He tells Israel that the following of the
dietary laws is not "for your healthiness" but "to make you holy(ie.
'distinct/separated/apart/different unto God')"

There was never a global pronouncement that pork & shellfish were unclean to
EVERYBODY!!

The question came up in the New Testament, because there was some confusion in
congregations which had mixed Greeks & Jews. . .

Paul's answer, based also on Peter's vision that was specifically intended to
open up Peter's tolerance to preach to non-Jews, was that for the new Way,
there were no rules of kosher & non-kosher, and he went so far as to put a
blanket disregard on ALL matters of Jewish ritual law.

Those("children of Israel") who follow the Torah, are still
required, at least
until the fullness of Messianic Kingship has been established(with accompanying
proofs of world peace, an end to sickness, etc.), to abstain from ritually
unclean foods.

Nobody else was ever beholden to do so, and Christianity reaffirmed and
accepted that non-applicability.

Likewise, non-Jews aren't REQUIRED to eat pork and shellfish -- if you feel,
for whatever reason, that you'd prefer not to eat them, then don't!

But with today's sanitary conditions and preservation techniques, the dietary
dangers of pork are no longer an issue (trichonosis is no longer in the meat!)

I could understand how some might not wish to eat pork because having a taste
for pork is having a taste for human flesh (a creature's diet affects the taste
of the meat!) and don't trust that, as occurred recently here in BC, Canada,
someone might not use a pig farm as a way to dispose of murder victims and
either feed the human corpses to the pigs, or just mix the two meats together
in sausages/etc.!)

Apparently the Pickton Farm was feeding the corpses of 50+ prostitutes to the
pigs!
