Depends on whether you want lots of little guys or a few big guys.  My 33 
gallon has:
giant danios
tiger barbs
zebra danios
lampeye tetras
black skirt tetras
gold skirt tetras
gold barbs
a dojo
and the biggest pleco I've ever seen
This tank has lots of movement and lots of light flashes.
One of my 20s has:
two large moonlight ghourammis
one rope (or reed) fish
one medium pleaco
and an assortment of rosy red and guppies as feeder fish
This tank has little movement, but is very graceful and exotic.
