Jordan chase Mugen deal

(29-Sep-98) - Jordan is said to be 'optimistic' about tying up a supply of
Mugen Honda engines until 2001 after its contract expires at the end of the
season.

The customer engines are highly rated by the team. They are considerably
cheaper than Mecachrome customer engines and appear to have a higher rate
of development.

However, Honda may decide to cut their support to its subsidiary, Mugen,
and so to Jordan when they enter the sport in their own right in 2000.
Alternatively they could see Jordan as a benchmark against which to judge
their own chassis.

Jordan would not comment on its engine talks beyond saying that it is
'always looking around to secure its future on the engine front'.
