Australia to ban tobacco advertising

(29-Sep-98) - The Australian Government has announced a total ban on
tobacco advertising in sport by the year 2006 - but F1 has been told that
this will present no obstacle to the country's Grand Prix.

Australia's Minister for Health, Dr Michael Wooldridge assured FIA boss Max
Mosley and the head of FOCA Bernie Ecclestone - the head's of the sports
governing bodies - that the GP will not be jeapordised. Australia will, as
a result of the changes, be brought into line with the European Union.

Until now, Australia had exemptions where tobacco advertising was
concerned, for major events which are part of an international series.
