| subject: | Re: How do I stop windows update bugging me? |
From: Mike '/m' >You can still connect to Windows Update manually to select the fixes >you want to install. I really wouldn't suggest doing that, as it resulted in a very unstable system for me (I wanted to avoid the W2K service pack with the onerous EULA). It appears that the patches expect to have all previous patches (and service packs) installed. There appeared to be some dependencies which, left unresolved, resulted in a system that did not function properly. /m On Sat, 25 Sep 2004 10:59:04 -0500, John Cuccia wrote: >On Sat, 25 Sep 2004 08:09:53 +0100, Adam Flinton > wrote: > >>John Cuccia wrote: >>> You can use the Control Panel Automatic Updates applet to turn off >>> Automatic Updates, and/or you can stop and disable the Automatic >>> Updates service. >>> >>> >> >>I have no reason not to wish to pick up IE fixes etc however (A) We're >>not supposed to have SP2 yet (B) I don't want to sign a EULA for a fix >>to an existing product. >> >>i.e. I want IE etc fixes but I want to knock SP2 off the list until I >>decide I want it (which might be never as I'm a gnat's foreskin from >>booting just to mandrake). > >You can still connect to Windows Update manually to select the fixes >you want to install. > >>What annoys is that cancel doesn't.
