subject: [MPW] Midwest Powerhouse Wrestling 4/19/2K3 - The Rap Sheet

Message-ID:

The Rap Sheet - from the Crimefighter
Midwest Powerhouse Wrestling "In Search of the Beast"
4/19/2K3, Godfrey, IL

This rap sheet is posted in rec.sport.pro-wrestling.info a newsgroup that
many wrestling organizations could utilize to spread info about their shows
but don't, and the archive of all the ones I've written are stored in
http://abermud.tripod.com/rapsheet.

This show is a TV taping, so the owners of MPW would rather I don’t go
posting the results of the show anywhere. Where the show airs though, is a
limited number of cable systems in the St. Louis area, which leaves me out
completely. MPW books by "complete mystery" cards where they announce that
there’s gonna be a show here but we aren’t telling you who’s wrestling that
night. Why do they do that? For one particular show the excuse was because
they were using talent from two other companies but they didn’t know what
they would be getting, which is fine, but you could still announce the
matches that are set in stone. However, EVERY show for the past few months
have had no publicly announced lineups which makes sense if you have a
lineup full of poorly skilled wrestlers but makes no sense at all if you’ve
got the best talent performing. As for what’s been happening in the
promotion itself, well I couldn’t tell you because that’s a big mystery too.
For a few weeks someone mailed me the results of the shows and told me to
keep them quiet. Now there was a big double show in a certain city but my
request for show results went unanswered. As for what little I know about
the recent happenings, a referee known only as "Mr. Insecurity" won a
hardcore battle royal on 4/5 to become its hardcore champion. Of course,
apart from Agents C & U nobody knows who actually entered the thing or how
this referee won the title…cause of that news blackout. Oh yeah, did you
know "Alpha Male" Guy Smith & Damien Blade lost the tag titles to the
"Lumberjacks"? I didn’t either, until I noticed the list of the current
champions had changed. Wonder when that took place…hmmm…(I have to guess it
was in Londell, MO on 4/12 but it could had been in Quincy on 4/5.) Smith by
the way is also the current New Midwest Wrestling heavyweight champion and
this broke up his double-champ status. Point is, the MPW webmasters didn’t
take too kindly to this valid criticism and barred me from their message
board, and they’re probably going to like me even less once they read this
Rap Sheet which was posted before the TV shows they taped go to air. Note to
them, if posting spoilers on taped wrestling shows decreased viewership that
much the WWF would be completely out of business. Well they’re halfway there
now but they aren’t suffering because of spoiler results, the matches and
wrestlers they’ve put out there just suck. Anyway, after talking to the
promoter their beef with me is that they don't want any negativity posted.
So what's wrong with a little hellraising? And chew me out if I'm dead
wrong, don’t go the censorship route.

This is my first MPW show, but I am familiar with a few of the wrestlers, as
they’ve sent five of their guys up to Springfield to perform. I don’t
usually travel long distance to watch a wrestling show, but my curiosity is
perked enough to go to this one show. Perhaps later I'll pay visits to other
companies in Illinois and do rap sheets on them. The first thing I notice
when I enter the building which is the Knights of Columbus in Godfrey, the
ceiling is LOW. So low in fact, that if you stand on the second rope your
head touches the ceiling. That's no good. Why run in a building when the
ceiling isn't high enough? Apparently a week ago they ran in a building
where the ceiling was even LOWER. SURELY there were other locations
available to hold the show, like the gym down the block at Lewis & Clark
Community College! So no moves off the top rope are possible, the second
rope neither. The betting pool was formed as to how many ceiling tiles the
wrestlers would knock out during the evening.

For this TV taping, they only have ONE working camera for the whole thing.
The other apparently broke. So it's gonna come off as a wide shot when it
airs on TV. The photos for this show can be seen here:
http://mudlist.betterbox.net/mpw

Fenix Rising, Scott and Jay Fenix/Michaels have quietly walked away from the
sport a few weeks ago. Scott Fenix citing burnout from wanting to impress
people with tons of cool spots and stuff decided around Christmas to call it
quits once Fenix Rising was done with their tag title run. Jay Fenix decided
to follow suit, so the former MPW Tag Team Champions are retired from pro
wrestling for now.
I have finally left the world of dial-up modems and got DSL service at a
bargain price of $35 a month...except it's only for the first year. Being
now that I have crossed over to DSL, I can now use and view things I
couldn't with a dial-up modem, including streaming video. It's like being a
kid in a candy store again, now that I can grab anything and not have to
wait an hour for the download to finish. There's plenty of matches to find
all over the net, so after this rap sheet I shall be write reviews of
various streaming videos I can find.

Your hosts are Master Powell as the promoter, Zach Fox as the ring
announcer, Luscious Lee Carpenter as the evil ref and MPW Hardcore Champ Mr.
Insecurity as the good ref, and Vanessa Hoffner sings the national anthem.
Very long musical intro with the lights out and a light show at the
entrance. Dan "The Beast" Severn is to defend his title tonight, but no
opponent is announced. Apparently it's an open contract.

We enter MPW TV show number one!

Bigg Boys International, the pseudo criminal organization that engages in
grand mob action attack Mr. Insecurity in the aisle as soon as the anthem is
done. Mr. Bigg whines to Mr. Insecurity for "robbing" his men of the tag
titles last week. Mr. Biggs calls the ref Mr. Insignificant and
incompentant, and did a lousy job of officiating that cost them the tag
titles. Mr. Bigg tried to make him do the right thing and he claims the
hardcore belt is his. Blade chokeslams the ref. Powerbomb by Smith, low
blow, powerslam. Apparently the hardcore title is under 24-7 rules or
something like that cause Mr. Bigg splashes the ref and acquires the title
for himself outside of an official match with Luscious Lee Carpenter as an
accomplice. Bleh.

NEW HARDCORE CHAMPION: Mr. Bigg

Now Mr. Bigg turns his attention to the Searcher and claims he's scared of
Guy Smith. That of course brings him out. Some arguement ensues between the
BBI and the fans. Mr. Bigg runs his mouth some more, someone says the fans
want to see The Searcher kick Smith's butt.

NMW Heavyweight Champion "MPW Heavy Hitter, NMW Alpha Male, Fans All
Female"
Guy Smith 6'0", 250lbs. Rapid City, SD w/ Mr. Bigg & Damian Blade vs. The
Searcher 6'5", 310lbs. Skull Canyon, AZ w/ The Chipster -- This is of
course, non-title being this is an MPW event and Smith forgot to bring his
belt to show it off. Searcher hits a kick, Guy bails on the outside, suicide
dive on the group of men. Searcher pounds away outside, Irish whip reversal
and Searcher gets posted. Beatdown by Smith and toss back in the ring. Irish
whip, clothesline by Smith gets only one. Smith with a choke, another Irish
whip and a sloppy clotheslines. Belly to back suplex gets Guy two. Irish
whip to the corner, reversal Searcher with a double mule kick from the
second rope. Reverse DDT from Searcher gets two. Irish whip Searcher,
catches Smith but has to drop him as the interference goes full stream with
Damian Blade jumping in the ring and hitting a leg. Smith only gets two out
of it, so Blade jumps back in the ring with a chair to help Smith with the
beatdown while Luscious Lee refuses to DQ Smith. The Chipster isn’t a
fighter himself it seems cause he doesn’t get involved in the massacre.
Finally this crapfest comes to a quick end when Dan Severn charges out from
the back to run everyone off for the Sports Entertainment finish at 6
minutes.

NO CONTEST -> 6 mins. ½*

Yep, we're definitely watching a TV taping, and Guy Smith just looks like a
total wuss having two men and a referee beat up one man. Luscious Lee
declares Smith the winner, but no one announced him as the winner so I'm not
recognizing anyone winning this riggamaroll. Severn screams at the BBI,
Smith gives the excuse Blade interfered to keep Searcher from cheating more.
Beast suggests Blade should be taught a lesson and take him on. Blade then
starts limping around. KFC chant roars. Well Mr. Bigg says it won't be Blade
but he has someone else to fill the open contract title defense The Beast
has and will bring him out to face him later tonight. Damian Blade is now
running around claiming his knee is hurt. Gimpy!

Eric Logan 5'10" 173lbs. Palm Springs, FL vs. Jynx, 5'10"? 170lbs.
Sacramento, CA - Mr. Insecurity is the referee, and he trips while climbing
through the ropes-still dazed from the mauling from earlier. Logan is an NMW
guy and Jynx is from Gateway Championship Wrestling. Arm drag from Jynx, hip
toss and a slam. Arm drag from Logan, hip toss and a slam to spite Jynx
followed by a dropkick. Jynx chokes Logan on the ropes, Irish whip, high
knee from Jynx. Logan with a crossbody gets two. Punches and kicks, Irish
whip to the corner, Logan misses the splash, Jynx with a backbreaker. Jynx
locks in something resembling the dragon sleeper but holds him in the
standing position instead of on one knee. Irish whip, flying headscissors
from Logan. Belly to belly suplex gets two. Fireman’s carry head rolling
slam gets two. Irish whip, Jynx catches Logan for the flatliner and just
chokes him instead of covering. Punch out, but Logan finishes off Jynx with
a flapjack. Would had liked this match to go a big longer, probably been
better if moves off the top were possible.

WINNER: Eric Logan pin -> 5:20 mins. **½

The Agency - Agent C 6'0" 232lbs. & Agent U 6'2" 165lbs. w/ Jaden, St.
Louis, MO vs. MPW Missouri Champion Christian Haze 6'2" 250lbs. Phoenix, AZ
& Chico Es Loco 5'10" 175lbs. Mexico, MO w/ Trinity -- Hmmmm...this
particular girl named Trinity is NOT the same one that appears in NWA TNA.
Luscious Lee is your crooked referee. Appears the Agency has been turned
loose from the BBI. Haze & C start, long struggle to get a takedown, hip
toss from C, hammerlock by Haze. Haze charges the ropes and hits four
shoulderblocks in a row. Tag Loco, tag U. U beats down Loco, choke on the
ropes then sits on his head. Uppercut and a slam from U. Kicks to the leg,
tag C. Double hip toss. Pumphandle abdominal stretch applied by C, Loco
makes the ropes. We get an illegal switch in there. Irish whip clothesline
from U. A stupid one foot cover gets a two count. Hey hey, the one foot
cover only works if you knock your opponent completely out! Irish whip
clothesline from C. Another Irish whip and C misses the clothesline but Loco
connects instead. Tag Haze, tag U. Repeatedly clotheslines from Haze, Haze
tosses C out. Jaden decides to jump in the ring and slap Haze. That brings
Trinity in the ring and we got a rolling catfight as the match comes to a
stop. The girls are separated and sent back to their corners as Loco sneaks
up one an agent and gets a rollup for two. Clothesline from U, superkick
from Loco on U, spear from Haze on C. Doubleteam move is set up as Loco
holds U up for a Haze superkick, he launches it but U escapes and Loco eats
boot. DDT C on Haze and U covers Loco for three. Well well, the agents didn’
t dare lift up anyone in the air this time after failing so miserably in
Springfield.

WINNERS: The Agency pin -> 7:50 mins. ***

Chico Es Loco is all upset that he ate that superkick when Agent U got out
of his grasp and states he wants a title shot for the Missouri title later
tonight.

Well Mr. Bigg comes out with Guy Smith and "Gimpy" Damian Blade who’s still
pretending to have a knee injury. Master Powell notes one of Bigg's men has
a groin injury and that he should kiss it to make it feel better. This drags
out for a while, and the editors will have to trim away the lulls to fit it
in an hour. Mr. Bigg goes through his roster, suggests it be the UFC champ
vs. the KFC champ, then says the man The Beast will face is someone he
brought over. They don't announce his name, but another person in the crowd
tells me he's from GCW, "Big Bad Ben". Blade wants the ref to throw a fan
out of the building cause he doesn't like the heckling. You want him gone?
Refend the ten bucks!

MPW Heavyweight Championship
(c) Dan "The Beast" Severn 6'2", 250lbs. Coldwater, MI vs.
Big Bad Ben 6'6",
350lbs. Parts Unknown w/ Mr. Bigg, Guy Smith & Damian Blade -- Ah crap, this
is going to be practically FOUR on ONE. Mr. Insecurity is the referee and he
trips again while climbing through the ropes. Posefest to start by the men
in the ring with their heads against the ceiling. Beast takes BBB to the
corner, lockups, and clean breaks. BBB takes The Beast to the corner and
slaps him in the face. Beast with a suplex, arm drags, BBB tries to leave
for the locker room. Mr. Bigg talks him into going back. Severn slingshots
him in, uppercuts, leg lock Beast, head lock takedown. BBB with a leg
scissors on the mat. Head butt knocks Beast in the corner and a choke. Ref
pulls him off while Gimpy starts choking the Beast himself. Chop from the
Beast, snatches the "glasses" from Mr. Insecurity and tosses him on the mat
while the ref drops down to retrieve them, and the Beast shoves BBB over the
crouched ref which nearly crushed him in the process. Sloppy. A low blow
from BBB gets a two count. Irish whip by BBB, Smith sloppily trips Beast.
Leg lock BBB but they make the ropes. Slam by BBB gets two. Dan with a
fireman’s takedown and locks in the Code Red submission hold but BBB makes
the ropes. Another trip from Guy and the Beast goes after him, BBB heads him
off and there’s a kickdown by the BBI that brings out the Searcher to break
it up. The chaos has the ref tied up while BBB sets up an Irish whip for
Damian Blade to hit Dan with a chair but there’s a reversal and BBB gets
clocked. Severn locks in and makes Triple B submit to the Dragon Sleeper and
this crapfest is thankfully over. Gee whiz not one single member of the BBI
can win a match without an army!

WINNER and STILL CHAMP: Dan "The Beast" Severn submission -> 9 mins. *

Master Powell screams at the BBI for the crapshoot they were pulling, calls
Mr. Bigg a donut jellyroll. Searcher asks Smith about his groin injury,
how'd he pull that one? Powell orders a tag match for the next show, Dan
Severn & The Searcher vs. "Alpha Male" Guy Smith & Damian
Blade with Mr.
Bigg & Big Bad Ben in their corner but names "The Ace" Cowboy
Bob Orton as
the special enforcer who comes out to scare the heels. Orton says some
words, but the mike volume is too low and BBB screams at him for not knowing
how to talk into a microphone and should take lessons from his kid. Orton
says some more words about liking kicking BBI butt. And the show ends right
there. No ceiling tiles taken out yet, amazing. This concludes TV hour
number one.
A LONG intermission for taking pictures with your favorite wrestlers that
runs an excessive 30-45 minutes leaving plenty of time to chatter with the
wrestlers waiting to be called in to take pictures. Eric Logan rats me out
to Master Powell so I get recognized for coming to my first MPW event.
*smirk* By the time the second half starts it’s already 9:30pm. Now we enter
MPW TV show number two!

MPW Tag Team Championship
(c) The Lumberjacks - Gabe 6'3", 260lbs. & Abe 6'4", 290lbs.
The Ozarks vs.
The Honor Roll - Michael Shard 5'8", 170lbs. Santa Monica, CA & Jason Wells
6'0", 230lbs. Kansas City, MO - This is the Honor Roll’s first teaming that
I know of since their former manager Prof. Philip H. Dempsey had a nasty
breakup with them last November. Sage Ramsey wasn’t available to team with
Wells this week it appears. Wells and Sage are set to challenge for the NMW
Tag Titles next week. Gabe wears the blue, Abe wears the grey. Shard and
Gabe start the match, and Shard is dwarfed by the big man. Punch, Irish whip
and a clothesline from Shard have no effect and he’s shaking his arm like he
tried hitting a brick wall. Tag Wells and attempted double teaming is met
with a double clothesline. Slam by Gabe. Irish whip and a back elbow on
Wells. Tag Abe, double axe handle, punches, formarms against the ropes and a
slam from Abe. Tag Gabe. I’m feeling like I’m at a sporting event where I’m
rooting for the visiting team like the Cubs playing in St. Louis while
lending my moral support to the Honor Roll. Irish whip reversal by Wells and
a clothesline. Wells pounds away to weaken the Lumberjack. Rear chinlock and
knee to the back applied by Wells. Wells with a slam and leg drop gets two.
Tag Shard. Punches and an arm wringer. Kicks the arm wrapped in the ropes.
Tag Wells, double team clothesline, the referee does a fast two count but
stops for no reason whatsoever, shoulders were down. Oh boy, I forgot to
mention the crooked ref Luscious Lee is doing this match. A suplex by Wells
gets two. Irish whip and a very sloppy spinebuster gets two for Wells. Note
to all referees, if the guy forgets to kick out, it’s HIS own fault and
SHOULD take the fall, you should not stop the count even if it isn’t
supposed to be the outcome. That’s what REMATCHES are for! Wells is caught
in a Side suplex by Gabe who tags Abe in. Tag Shard. Abe shoves Shard off.
Abe picks up Shard but he wiggles over and barely rolls up Abe for one.
Irish whip, clothesline by Abe. Chops to the head, Abe attempts another move
but Shard muscles Abe in a backslide for a count of zero. Irish whip and a
clothesline from Shard. Tag Wells. Forearms in the corner, rake of the face
by Wells, but Abe chops Wells on the head and sends him to the Lumberjacks
corner and tags Gabe. Shoulders to the gut in the corner, take down, head
lock by Gabe. Wells gets to his face and hits a jawbreaker to free himself.
Wells goes to work on the leg and knee and tags Shard in. Double team
kicking of the knee, Shard works the leg. Tag Wells, spear to the knee on
Gabe. Wells ties up the leg but Gabe makes the ropes. Abe comes in to
protest and we have an illegal switch with Shard in as they beatdown Gabe.
Shard with a dropkick to the knee, a kick to the back and a take down. Tag
Wells, headbutt to the knee. Irish whip, reversal and a spinebuster by Gabe.
Gabe tags but the referee’s view is blocked by Shard and is put out while
Gabe is dragged back in. Irish whip, reversal powerslam Gabe. Tag Abe again,
Irish whip, a big boot, leg drop on Wells gets two. Low blow from Wells.
Shard and Wells pair up with each Lumberjack and punch away at each corner.
Double Irish whip by the Honor Roll, reversal and Wells & Shard collide.
Lumberjack double team suplex on Wells gets three. Best match of the night
so far.

WINNERS and STILL CHAMPS: The Lumberjacks pin -> 14:15 mins. ***½

GCW Heavyweight Champion Diamondback Dingo 5'8", 185lbs. Melbourne,
Australia vs. Delirious 5'11", 185lbs. "Dante's Inferno" --
This is another
non-title match, and Dingo also forgot to bring his belt. Mr. Insecurity is
the referee, and he doesn’t trip climbing through the ropes. USA chants, but
he's an Aussie. Delirious chases the ref out of the ring. Lockup and a shove
by Dingo, some slugging. A trade off of chops. Irish whip, monkeyflip by
Dingo. Delirious bails out. Back in the ring running shoulder blocks have no
effect. Dingo just clotheslines him down instead. Trade off of go behinds
trying for a takedown with Delirious succeeding. Kicks to the head,
powerbomb attempt blocked, cradle suplex by Delirious gets two. Delirious
charges to the corner and hits a knee to the head. Powerbomb by Delirious
and he tries climbing to the top rope but meets up with the ceiling and
can't decide what to do about the ceiling tiles in his way. This allows
Dingo to grab him for a weak powerbomb for two. Dingo locks in the full
nelson and does a belly to back suplex with him, nearly breaking Delirious's
neck in the process in a sick-looking bump. I'm guessing that's the "Ego
Buster". Then he picks up the man does does a twirling fisherman's suplex
bomb, that's probably the "Dingo Driver". Man I hope Delirious didn't break
his neck, but it looks like he's suffered a concussion the way he just holds
a pose on the apron with that strange look on his face for about a minute or
so looking my direction. This match needed a lot more time.

WINNER: Diamondback Dingo pin -> 3:45 mins. **

MPW Missouri Championship
(c) Christian Haze 6'2" 250lbs. Phoenix, AZ w/ Trinity vs. Chico Es Loco
5'10" 175lbs. Mexico, MO - Christian talks about the incident earlier
tonight being accidental. Lockup, hammerlock by Loco. Shoveoff, hip toss by
Haze, countered by a hip toss from Loco. Flip over the shoulder by Haze.
Punches, Irish whip clothesline from Haze, slam, leg drop. Irish whip, Haze
swings and misses, Loco with a flying head scissors, gets a fast two
count…hey Luscious Lee is ref’ing again, no wonder. Loco with kicks in the
corner. Haze catches Loco with a leg northern lights suplex. Loco with chops
in the corner. Irish whip to the corner, Loco with a tornado DDT gets two.
Three leg drops from Loco gets two. Haze though hits the bombshell and
finishes Loco for three. This was better than the last match I saw between
these two.

WINNER and STILL CHAMP: Christian Haze pin -> 4:25 mins. ***

Christian Haze goes to make up with Loco, Loco isn't sure about it, chants
chant Chico, and Loco goes and hugs Haze.

The BBI - NMW Heavyweight Champion "MPW Heavy Hitter, NMW Alpha Male, Fans
All Female" Guy Smith 6'0", 250lbs. Rapid City, SD &
"Gimpy" Damian Blade
6'4", 326lbs. Bethlahem, PA w/ Mr. Bigg & Big Bad Ben vs. MPW Heavyweight
Champion Dan "The Beast" Severn 6'2", 250lbs. Coldwater, MI
& The Searcher
6'5", 310lbs. Skull Canyon, AZ w/ The Chipster & "The
Ace" Cowboy Bob
Orton - Oh boy, Luscious Lee is ref’ing this match too. Master Powell and
Zach Fox are commentating a bit of the match live. A fan notes the
championship belt came from Woolworth's for $1.99. Big poseoff to start. The
heels attack, double Irish whip, double hip toss, the heels bail. Severn and
Gimpy start. Severn works on the knee of Blade but Smith breaks it up. Slam
by Severn, tag Searcher covers for two. Sitdown slam Searcher gets one as
BBB puts Blade's foot on the ropes. Irish whip double elbow Beast in, splash
on Blade, splash by the Beast gets two. Searcher flips Blade over for two.
ANOTHER LOW BLOW by Blade, punch, tag Smith. Irish whip, double elbow gets
Smith two. Guy with a knee to the back and a rear chinlock. Searcher
jawbreakers Smith, Smith tags Blade. Punches from Blade score a knockdown,
tag Guy. Death valley driver attempts but its blocked into a Russian leg
sweep by Searcher. Man this crowd doesn't get the "All Female" chant. Tag
Severn, tag Blade. Clotheslines for the BBI, getting weaker with every one.
Oops they knock out the drink bottle. Severn with a half-crab on Blade.
Smith breaks it up, drawing Searcher in. Searcher tosses Blade out. Searcher
with a suicide dive. Smith chops away at Severn in the corner, hip toss. BBB
gets in the ring. Orton comes in with a chair and whacks BBB with it. Irish
whip, clothesline from Smith on the Beast. Guy Smith gets in the face of
Orton, Orton slugs him. Severn rolls up Guy Smith for three.

WINNERS: Dan "The Beast" Severn & The Searcher pin -> 11 mins. *½

Dang what a chaotic mess this match was, just too many bodies flying around
making this practically a battle royal, yet it was entertaining enough.
Searcher, Severn, Chipster and Orton celebrate. BBB wants some more and
Orton throws down the hat, but BBB thinks better of it and leaves. Master
Powell and Zach Fox thanks us all for coming, suggests putting Severn and
Orton together for a tag match. Fans want the security guys to wrestle, but
they don't wrestle them. They say maybe next time the Yellow Guy can come
wrestle. They play around with some chants and stuff.

The Verdict: The BBI really stunk up the joint, cheat cheat cheat cheat
cheat cheat…one on one is a concept these guys aren’t familiar with and
greatly degraded what were supposed to be good matches on paper out of pure
laziness or wimping out. There were good wrestling matches in there, as long
as the BBI weren’t in the matches. Hey no one took out a ceiling tile the
entire evening! I’m shocked! Anyway, let’s hope they avoid running in
facilities where the ceiling is high enough to stand on the top rope and not
touch the ceiling with their arms.
