Schumacher concedes that Ferrari were not quick enough

(27-Sep-98) - Michael Schumacher admitted after his defeat at the hands of
Mika Hakkinen that only the Ferrari's lack of performance was to blame for
the result.

The German, who looked very disappointed afterwards, claimed that he had no
chance of matching the pace of Hakkinen once the Finn had got ahead in the
pit-stops.

"At the start the situation was nice and good, but at this stage the
tyres went away and I couldn't push as hard as I wanted to," he
explained. "We just have to accept we were not fast enough in the
race.

"I was just surprised that he got ahead of me during the pit-stops
because I don't know how many laps he stayed out for but I believed I had
enough in hand.

"We are now just going to test quite a lot, we have a programme and we
have another race within the next four weeks to see who wins at Suzuka.

"We will try, we are very close and, if not then, we still have enough
reasons to be very happy of our achievements. I believe we can still be
proud of ourselves."
