Well, I can't really say one way or the other. I would imagine that the one I
have is "better" than yours since it will do 33.6, but I wouldn't necessarily
say that it's the data pump which causes poor performance.
Do you have an internal or an external modem? V34 allows for the line to be
monitored throughout the call, so if line noise quietens down the speed will
shift up. If noise increases, the speed can shift down.
With an internal modem you don't see the speed shifts. Sometimes I get 26.4
connects, but within 1-2 minutes it does shift up to 28.8. I don't think you
can rely solely on the connect rate to determine how good a connection is.
You can adjust an S register so that you always get a 28.8 connect, but what
good does it do if your modem shifts down to the slower speed after a couple
minutes? All it does is give you the perception that the modem is running
faster.

Perhaps you can contact your phone company and get them to check your line
out. What would be real nice, and possibly clear some of this up, is some
sort of "report" as to what's required for a 28.8 connect. Then you can ask
your phone company if certain readings are adequate enough to sustain a 28.8
connect. Do you know what I mean? Anyone from Supra reading this and care to
comment?
... Are files embarrassed when the are unZIPped?
