That, and a subtle undercurrent of Anti-Semitism in the Church throughout the
middle ages, and probably never completely purged. . .
Showing Jesus as an actual Jew could negate the Church's "replacement
theology"! :|
Certainly Michaelangelo(whose paintings of the Passion & Last Supper created
the image/picture of Jesus most consider familiar) was painting with an aim to
being successful/profitable, so would certainly have made the image of Jesus
accessible/familiar/identifiable with his ITALIAN audience. . .
And nobody has much seen fit to correct the image and bring it more in line
with modern archaelogical knowledge of 1st century Judah!
Except last year there was a UBC professor who, using a skull from the period
reconstructed what could probably be a typical 1st century Judaean (ie. one
like Jesus might've looked like)
Your friend,
