Classic symptoms for a Ford failure.  They usually go intermittent,
rather than quit completely.  That's the maddening part.  MSD made a
neat replacement for it.  Was a plug-in replacement, except it had
a timing adjustment knob to mount inside the vehicle.  I had one on
an old Ford police car, and it was quite handy.  I'd advance the timing
a bit to help with cold starts, or retard it if I had a hot ping
problem.  Don't know if they still make it, though.
