I was just wondering if anyone has seen the March 1996 issue of Diver
Magazine. I would like to hear any comments on the picture on the cover
if anyone cares to leave a comment. I saw several things in that
picture which worried me as a diver. First of all, I want to make it
clear that I am not bashing the magazine or the articles it contains.
My main concern is that this is a magazone specifically aimed towards
divers, and therefore it should be aware of what it is indirectly
promoting by the pictures it contains. As a form of media which is very
specific in it's audience and info, the editors, etc. should realize
that it is in the position to be critiqued and criticized by it's
audience. Overall I think it is an excellent mag with great articles,
but I think it should take more care when obtaining or printing
pictures. Now that has been said, I just thought that I would point out
one or two things: 1. look at the diver's weight belt and tell me that
the diver is on the ball; 2. the diver is diving without any sort of
backup boyancy unit (ie. a BCD) and relies solely on his drysuit. This
may not seem to big of a deal, but he is diving around coral and from
what I could see, a rather sizable wreck as well with coral on it. it
also appears that he is at a considerable depth (though I could be
wrong) considering the lack of daylight and no surface
immediately visible. Linked to this is; 3. the extra lp whip that is
just sort of dangling there getting in the way and could possibly create
problems. Another noticeable problem (though some would disagree) is
the pressure gauge clipped up in the worst spot/way possible other than
not being clipped up at all. Not only does it do very little in
allowing it to get either tangled in or around the wreck but Worse, it
is allowed to hang low enough that it could very easily destroy the
coral, or worse, get the hosed sheared off in the sharp coral and create
a whole slew of other problems. 4. a noticeable absence of bubbles in
the picture...please tell me that he is inhaling and that the exhaled
bubbles have already made it out of the picture's frame...I hope he is
not holding his brath for the sake of a "clear" picture; 5. this one is
not to big as I am sure that a lot of people do it (though I don't know
why), and that is this: as far as I could tell the diver is at a
considerable depth as far as cold and suit compression is concerned, in
the Atlantic Ocean. Now why is he wearing a 5 fingered glove instead of
the warmer 3 fingered mitt? (unless it is a dry glove to match his
drysuit).. Just thatought that I would ask
see ya later
