Not only that, but it only failed around a certain tempurature range, and 
usually only when the engine was cold.

Have the electronic one on mine.  I BELIEVE it's actually the original, 
though I can't be certain (had the original alternator after 17 years). 
Still puts out almost 14 volts at idle..
