Actually, it is more a reaction against memorization than any serious
comment on Canadians.

I have an exceptionally difficult time memorizing things, yet am very good
at the analytical.

(In the middle of many a calculus exam, I've had to derive simple rules
that the rest of the class had memorized. At most I can "hold"
about 40 minutes of unrepeated music; I am hopeless at memorizing scripts
or dialogue for a play.)

This inability to memorize seems to be "hardwired", as I've tried
many, many memory exercises without success. (Don't ask me to remember what
they were....)
