CH>Suppose...........just suppose the POLICE OFFICER was in pursuit
CH>of a child molestor who just grabbed a child;
On FOOT.
Well, a cop that misplaced his keys to his squad car is not a very
effectual cop. :-P
CH> and............just
CH>suppose that IF you had complied with the law and his order he could
CH>have apprehended that child molestor and prevented him from killing
CH>the child
My, I am powerful. My car is a gleaming Bat-Mobile, to boot.
CH>.....which he did.
CH> And suppose, the District Attorney in
CH>your jurisdiction felt that your action amounted to a felony crime
CH>incidental to the death of the child.
Well, the D.A. would be as stupid as the cop.
You see, my defence would be "I didn't know if he was actually a police
officer. But even if he was, he may have been a rouge cop that went
crazy."
You see, the "what if" game can be played the other way around.
WHAT IF this cop were to run over 3 kids, a nun, and a kitten while
using MY CAR to catch a car thief? Sorry, but I like kittens too much to
be guilty of contributing to such horror.
CH> Would you take it so lightly?
I take Constitutional rights very seriously. And freedom isn't free.
Hundreds of thousands of people have died in the ONGOING struggle for
it. One more hypothetical one is not going to change my mind. And fear
of infliction of punishment by the authoritarians ain't gonna make me
less adamant about it.
CH>I think not.
Perhaps we should all park our cars in front of the closest cop station,
with the keys in them, so the police have ready access to them.
We wouldn't want anyone to get away just because of our silly ideas that
personal property is just that....that seizure of same without due
process is bad, now would we.
