subject: QuickenW v.5

I haven't followed this conference in some time, so what I am asking about
may have been discussed extensively already.
I am using Quicken v. 2 for Windows and have been using it for a few years.
I still have not mastered all of its functions, but do use it with
Chekfree to pay bills. I also bought a copy for my brother-in-law,
and he uses it a lot. BTW, both he and I are using Windows 3.1, and have no
plans to change to Win '95.
I'm thinking about upgrading to Quicken v. 5 for Windows, and possibly
buying my brother-in-law a copy as a belated Christmas/birthday present.
What are your opinions on v. 5? Also, are the "deluxe" and the
"deluxe CD" versions worth the extra money?
I was last in this conference when v. 3 for Windows had just come out
and a number of participants were complaining of various "bugs" in
the program. How have you found v. 5 for Windows?
Any comments or information will be appreciated.
C'ya.

Joe,

I was very happy with my upgrade to version 3 and do version 4. Both
version do some of the things that I wanted out of version 2. The quick
fill worked like I wanted it to, and the loans were more flexible if you
paid ahead a little bit. I always thought the interest should be
calculated on the actual balance.

I have not upgraded to 5 yet only because I was happy with 4. I do
plan to get it later since I have upgraded to just about every version
since DOS V 2.0.

I would say that there are a lot of improvements over v 2.0 and the
upgrad is worth while to 4.0 or 5.0.

As for the Deluxe version. I have it with version 3.0, and never
used the extra features.

Subj: Any Excel Users ???

Hello! Except for cap. gains reports, I don't have much use for Sicken. I
feel I have more control using my spreadsheet for tracking Savings/Checking/
Credit Cards/Investments/Taxes.
If anyone out there is an avid Excel user as I, perhaps we could trade some
Templates. Your creativity using Excel is almost limitless and it would be
interesting to see what others have done. I'm also interested in financial
formulas you may have come up with in the process of using Excel.
In addition to Checking/Savings/Credit Card Templates, here are a few
others:
GAINS.XLS - Tracks mutual funds & core account; some figures are linked from
other pages. The header includes: Fund type/Account number, Trade
Symbol, Buy Date, %Gain, Start NAV, Last NAV, Cost Basis, Shares,
            Dollars, Gain/Loss.
MSTR.XLS - Tracks individual Mutual Fund, Cash Account, or Bond Fund. The
header includes: Trade Symbol, Fund Type, Fund Name, Account
Number, Cost Basis, Gross Dist., Balance, Linked Gain/Loss,
Linked NAV, Total Shares. Columns A thru I show Date, Action,
From/To, Buy/Sell, Dividend, ST Cap, LT Cap, NAV, Shares.
HISTORY.XLS - Keep a history of past transactions or funds. The header
includes: Year, Fund Name, Fund Type, Buy Date, Sell Date,
Start NAV, Last NAV, Cost Basis, Shares Sold, End Value,
              Gain/Loss.
Plus others for logging fund prices, estimating taxes with templates that
mimic the 1040, Sked-B, and Sked-D. Is there no end to the fun?
