General News
----------
I welcome two now astronomy/space members to NYC Events this
month. NYSkies, the Yahoogroup forum, inaugurated its own series of
astronomy meetings on March 17th. They run on the 1st and 3rd
Thursdays every month on Chelsea, Manhattan. Details are in the items
of April 7th and 21st. These sessions are an evolution of NYSkies to
better look after home astronomy in the NYSkies territory.
Western Connecticut State University runs free public nights at
its observatory and planetarium in Danbury CT. The days and hours are
irregular, so please read each entry carefully.
Lower Hudson Valley Challenger Center, a newcomer last month,
clarified its program. It offers one of three simulated space voyages
each month. In March it presented a journey to the Moon. For April
it's the trip to Mars. May has the mission to comet Encke.
Staten Island Community Television in Fevruary 2005 reconfigured
its astronomy forum. Guests are drawn from other disciplines to offer
a more rounded excursion into the sciences.
April brings warm weather, so the NYC Urban Park Rangers fires up
its excellent -- and free! -- walking tours all over the City. I put
in NYC Events a few of them for diversity.
Event news
--------
The Graduate Center at City University continues its series of
shows about Albert Einstein. 2005 is the 100th anniversary of the
first publication of his relativity theory. NYSkiers flocked to the
ones in February and March to learn more about this 'man of the
century' of Time magazine. Note that the show for March 28th is
postponed to April 5th.
Continued in next message.
