I posted a few notices a month or to ago about the Edmund Fitzgerald bell.
Recovered in 1995 by the Canadian Navy, Can-dive and a Michigan museum, the
bell is now on display in Whitefish Bay. The bell was scheduled to make its
only Canadian apperance at Underwater Canada 96 which runs March 29-31 at the
Regal Constelation Hotel. I'm sorry to report that the bell will NOT becoming
to Canada. One family related to a Fitz victim protested the apperance of the
bell at the show. They turned up the heat (writing to president clinton, the
Cdn government etc) and earlier this week the museum and Underwater Canada
decided to cancel the apperance of the bell. The show still goes on! We
expect 8,000 people to attend. Some relatives of Fitz victims will be at the
show to petition divers and the Cdn government to make the wreck an
off-limits grave site.
At the show there are 200 exhibits (rebreathers to travel destinations). Of
note is the gala Saturday night film festival, secret footage taken on the
Titanic last summer by James Cameron will be shown by Ralph White!
Need any info e-mail me or call the show at 416-426-4033. The show is
non-profit and is run 100% by volunteers.
