Thanks for the info!  My experiments with the circular variety went nowhere.
It has maybe a half stop reduction but not nearly enough to compensate for a
f/8 minimum setting on strobe applications with the digital.  Didn't really
expect it to do much better but hope is eternal for some things.  

Frankly, I'd consider this to be a waste of time.  Might as well spring for
the real McCoy and get on with the conversion activities.  So far, greatly
diffused electronic flash has been the biggest hurdle encountered.
