GM> GM> JE> 20'!!! Why on earth so terribly long?? GM> GM>In practical terms, a 20ft cord will only just do a room about GM> GM>10-12ft square from an outlet in one corner, with furniture in GM> GM>the way, and that will still require that you back up around the GM> GM>furniture to move from one side to the other. GM> JE> Over here the standard power cord length for computer is 6'. GM>That sounds about right. I think the standard length is 2 metres. Close enough. GM> JE> That's why I was so surprised. Further most city wiring GM> JE> codes require a convenience outlet every x feet of wall. Can't GM> JE> remember just how many feet the requirement is. GM>In my 40yo house, there was no legal requirement to have any GM>power outlets at all. AFAIK that still applies. The house I had in Houston is older than that now and it had convenience outlets as I described. The house I am in now was built in 1974 - and is the same. The room I am in right now - a small bedroom (originally) about 12 x 12 has FOUR outlets - on on each wall. The master bedroom has 5 outlets - one wall has 2. That is pretty much standard here and has been for about 50 years or more - by most city electrical codes. GM>For convenience when the house was built we had one in each room GM>except for two in the kitchen and two in the lounge. This has GM>naturally been increased over the years. GM> JE> This power cord was for computer equipment wasn't it? GM>IIRC, without going back over the mail, I was referring to the GM>floor polisher I was given about 20 years ago that we are still GM>using Big difference. Here the power cord for that would be a minimum of 20 ft also. Jay --- þ OLXWin 1.00b þ Simple enough?
