but the gist was.... you think you might have a problem with alcohol,
but can't imagine actually quitting.
i can tell you that i felt the very same way. i *knew* i had a drinking
problem and my life was in shambles..... but i couldn't give up alcohol!
what else was there? i couldn't imagine my life without drinking (and
drugs) so the only option seemed to be trying to find a better way to
drink. i tried, believe me, every possible thing. switching to beer,
switching to wine, drinking only at home, doing stimulants so i could
drink more, doing downers so i might need to drink less, and on
and on...... but nothing was working!
what i had to find was a way to live without alcohol.... and i didn't
have a clue how to do that. but there are fortunately, others who knew
the answer to that and were willing to teach me...... with much care and
patience.
i have not had a drink in over 7 years..... and my life today is better
than i ever thought i could have deserved or hoped for. it's not boring,
i didn't shrivel up and forsake a social life, i didn't have to lock
myself away in a convent..... all the horrors i thought would certainly
face without my friend alcohol and my drinking buddies :)
