CT> 4) Les Miserables (PG)
CT> TW: $5.3 mil
CT> [A non-musical remake of the Victor Hugo classic
CT> that is worth the price of admission.]
DD> Has anyone watched this movie yet? I've seen some very unfavorable
DD> reviews of it, most of which seem to say that it isn't a particularly
DD> imaginative adaptation of the novel.
Any movie attempting to do Les Miserables justice sure can't do it in
2 hours. There is just too much to cover. The focus is on the adversity
between the Liam Neeson and Geoffrey Rush characters and this is where
the film does succeed.
If you love Victor Hugo's classic story, it is still worth the price
of admission and it is superior to the Broadway musical, and cheaper.
DD> I saw a scene that seemed a bit unlikely being previewed. Jean
Valjean DD> was being shoved down by Javert, which seems quite backwards to
me, when
DD> Valjean had returned to Fantine just before her death. I guess I can
ee
DD> it being more symbolic where the law has once again made Valjean feel
DD> powerless once more.
