Since Guy Putnam yelled this at Steve Henderson, I hollered this in response:
SH> Why in the hell would someone fire a $5000-plus missile in an attempt
SH> to take out a few troops? The TOW is used from a standing overwatch
SH> position against enemy -armor-. YOUR armor batallion is assigned the
SH> task of engaging enemy armor with TOW standing guard on the flanks.
SH> The accompanying friendly troops are there to take out the enemy
SH> personnel.
GP> Yea, & suppose you had a big wad of TOW & there wasn't any advancing
GP> armor, only anvancing infantry that greatly out numbered your
GP> accompanying friendly troops by massive margins . . . . ?
Here's where you are getting confused. At -no- point is a "big wad" of TOW
ever deployed. A TOW -Company- (48 guns) supports a Tank -Battalion-. The
TOW is -not- deployed against troops. It is -only- deployed in support of
Friendly armor.
SH> I -know- the manner and method of deploying the TOW. It is -useless-
SH> as an anti-personnel weapon.
GP> I don't think you could exactly fire it between someone's feet & have
GP> the shaped charge just cut harmlessly into the mud . . . . . do you?
You don't have a clue. You've spent entirely too much time watching GI Joe
on TV, haven't you?
