I've already uninstalled 6 and reverted to 5.1, so I can't check. What
plugins did 6 have that can be disabled?

After going back to 5.1, I no longer dread opening PDF files. Not only
loading, rendering is slower, and even doing Ctrl+F to find text is a pain,
having to wait as it resizes the view to open and draw a search pane
instead of simply popping up a dialog box.
