By default, it loads everything in it's "plugins" directory, when
in fact it can live without any of those, and you can still read at least
most of the basic pdf's. Try this (I just tested this on my new computer,
works nicely): make a new folder somewhere and copy everything, including
subfolders, from the Adobe\Acrobat 6.0\Reader\plug_ins folder to there.
Then open a pdf file. Fast, eh? My version loaded the test file so fast
that it almost scared the crap out of me!

Now, hit search in the reader. It will complain that a plugin is missing
(yeah nice going - couldn't be bothered to show *which* plugin is missing,
no). So look into the plugins where ever you moved them: you'll find a
"Search.api" file there - just plonk it right back to the
original plug_ins folder and restart the reader, and now you can search
again. Most of the plugins seem to be named like that, so it should be
pretty easy to find the one that's missing.

Me, I don't usually need anything else than to be able to read and
sometimes search the pdf's, but of course if you use more complex stuff
(I'd guess forms and stuff like that) you'll have to figure out some of the
other plugins as well.

Oh, and as far as I know, this should work in version 5.x as well.

(Damn idiot lazy ass programmers had to make it work so stupid - why the
f*ck can't they ever think before they do these things? Just a) how easy
would it be to load the plugins *when neeeded*, and b) make the stupid
search functionality built-in at least? A plugin for searching?
Gimmeabreak...)
