Rich,

BTW, I just had a similar experience with the vanishing GDIScan Tool =
program like Anti did. On one of our servers, it was waiting as a =
pending update, it installed, and on the reboot of the server, I got the =
message that there were vulnerable programs (a default Office 2000 =
install that was done eons ago), and there is no trace of the tool =
anywhere on the desktop to allow me to re-run it.

I am applying all the office updates to that machine, even though we =
rarely, if ever use any of the office programs on that server (an =
occasional spreadsheet or word document that needs to be opened).

ANy chance you are running your own HTTP cache or proxy? You =
didn't give enough info to identify when during your visit you see this. =
One quick thought is that if you have a cache or proxy that is =
misbehaving you might see such an error.

Oh joy, my visit to Windows Update yields:

    Windows Update Error

Windows Update has encountered an error and cannot display the =
requested page.

Send error number to Microsoft (0x800A1391)
