JT> If you lose either the front or back half of your JT> braking system, you still have _some_ braking, but JT> maybe you don't know how much this "some" actually is. PE> Half. JT> Assuming no additional loss, and also assuming the brake JT> balance is set up for 70% front 30% back, and assuming JT> your front brakes are the ones that will go- You have JT> 30% brake left, at best. Fair bit less than half. But still perfectly adequate for stopping the car the way he drives. No point in going into hysterics and never driving the car. Particularly when the mechanic clearly didnt think that the brake hoses warranted a defect notice and just warranted a conservative approach of changing them before the next rego to eliminate the small possibility of them going bang. JT> This "some" is actually a lot closer JT> to "fuck all" rather than "just made it". Oh crap. PE> Two "fuck all"'s make a whole do they? JT> When you lose one, you also are pumping JT> fluid out of that leak for a short while. And still have the other half of the braking system working. Thats the whole point of having a split braking system. If it didnt have a significant value, they wouldnt bother with the significant increased cost of doing it that way. JT> How much do YOU trust your "non dual redundant" brake JT> system now? Still do? Read up on it, and find out how this JT> "dual braking system" works, and then ask which areas fail JT> according to common failures, and what happens when it does. PE> I did read up on it, and the manual told me that it was designed PE> so that if one part of the system failed, the thing would still PE> work. In this case, the question is on the front brake hoses. JT> Stiff shit. The book for my car says exactly the same thing. So your claim is bullshit. Its very reasonable to be continuing to drive his car. JT> Either way, even IF you still have half brakes available, JT> how will you know if it goes at the most inopportune moment? The brakes dont work. Pity that you are hyperventilating about a VERY unlikely risk, when NONE of the brakes has actually failed. JT> Rather incovenient time to fail I bet. Sure, there is a remote possibility of total brake failure. That normally results in a dented car. There is a much HIGHER risk of driver failure, and YOU take that risk every day you go out in your car John. No point in going into hysterics about the very small risks. @EOT: ---* Origin: afswlw rjfilepwq (3:711/934.2) SEEN-BY: 711/934 712/610 624 @PATH: 711/934 |
