Drew,

DK>Best of luck to all of you. Hope it all gets cleared up soon. And good luc
DK>with the BBS. I lost an Atari Falcon a few months ago to a thunderstorm (I
DK>run the BBS on real Atari hardware). Fortunately, I had another Atari to
DK>transfer the BBS to but still... keep safe. You and the computer. ;)

Rumor has it when they first built the apartments where I live now, over 40
years ago as a prototype...to save money, they apparently didn't install
grounding rods. Lightning dances around here like an ungrounded Faraday cage
during thunderstorms.

One time, it hit a metal grate in the sidewalk, not feet from the front
door!! Another time, it hit the tree on the southwest side of my apartment
building (4 apartments per building). A glitch in the alarm system wiring
caused damage to the alarm system (which has since been fixed), but I had
everything that I could disconnect "unplugged".

Yet, people in my building, and adjacent buildings, were taking electronic
appliances of all sorts (computers, radios, TV's, stereo sets, home
entertainment centers, DVD/VCR units, microwave ovens, etc.) by the truckload
out to the dumpster...as the surge had spread out so wide!!

Daryl
