I agree. My major complaint is that there is effectively no GUI for this
the way there is for regular searches. You have to use the query language
to get reliable results.
The other major GUI irritation is that it doesn't display results for files
on the desktop. It will say it found one file (or however many), but the
list will be empty.

Fortunately, I have not noticed this. If I create a text file, search will
have indexed it within a few seconds. But you are correct that indexed
searches are best for finding things that were created long ago that you
have forgotten about, and that if it doesn't find it, that doesn't mean it
isn't there. But when it does find it, you save yourself the extra wait.
