Hi Ryan, as you were just saying about Re: choices in amerikka....
RB> BR> Well, in Colombia the pro-drug folks haven't done badly - maybe you
RB> BR> wanna consider going there?
RB>
RB> First, let's be clear that you agree that the police in this
RB> country as an organized entity influence law-making. So there will
RB> be no more of this "the police don't make the laws" crap.
Excuse me?? The police can only affect the law makers as individuals
by voting and as a group by lobbying. That is no different than any
other group.
RB> Second,
RB> the "pro-drug folks" you are referring to are just as much my enemy
RB> as any businessman, because that's what are. The drug lords are
RB> capitalist businessman, just like any other, whose interest is in
RB> profit before anything else.
Do you have a problem with capitalism?
RB> Of course, this is probably why the CIA and the US
RB> Government has allied itself
RB>
RB> with drug cartels when it suits them.
RB>
RB> BR> A situation brought about by tenants who are not responsible. Are you
RB> BR> trying to say that expecting you to make and to keep a contract is
RB> BR> unjust?
RB>
RB> Again, you change the subject because you have nothing to
RB> say. Contracts is not
RB>
RB> the issue - the issue is whether there is a bounty of lease-less
RB> apartments. And the answer is, as I've said from the beginning, NO.
RB> Have you finally conceded to this?
Why should there be? Do you understand what landlords go through on a
month to month basis without leases? You end up with tenants who
don't give a damn about the property since they won't be there long so
they don't take care of it. When they leave, the landlord has to
refurbish the property in order to make it presentable enough to rent
to the next group.
Now while he is refurbishing it, he still has to make his payments to
the bank, he has monies going out to the folks who are doing the work
and he has no income from that proeprty to offset those costs. Now,
after the place is fixed up so that it can be rented to the next set of
tenants, the landlord has the cost of advertising to make sure that
folks are aware that he has a place to rent.
Since rentals are competitive on price, one must ensure that the
property is rented out with as few *unnecessary* expenses as possible.
You do have normal attrition of appliances such as stoves,
refrigerators, washers, dryers, etc, paint, trim and roofs so why on
earth would you like to have to pay for tenants who really didn't care?
RB> BR> THIS is horseshit of the purest ray serene. You KNOW it is illegal,
RB> BR> you CHOOSE to do it anyhow - now you want it to be someone else's
RB> BR> fault that you got yourself arrested?
RB>
RB> Unlike you, I do not let my CHOICES be affected by a crazed drug
RB> war waged by politicians and law enforcement.
Yes, you do. You just don't realize it.
RB> Do you think it is my
RB> fault that weed is illegal? Do you think it is my fault that the
RB> police create dangerous situations by criminalizing a harmless
RB> drug?
It's not mine either, but if I decide to do drugs, I need to be
prepared to face the consequences of that choice.
RB> I'm more than content to sit in my
RB> house and smoke my weed and not bother anyone. It is law
RB> enforcement that has pulled all the punches here.
If you just do it in your own home, you probably will not be bothered
unless you call attention to yourself in some way.
RB> BR> 'unjust' is a null term - hard to quantify. It sounds to me like you
RB> BR> think anything you don't LIKE is unjust.
RB>
RB> You seem to think that if someone says something is unjust,
RB> it is whining.
In your case, much of it appears to be. You don't want to assume the
responsibility of your own decisions.
RB> Do I
RB> think it is unfair for kids to be arrested for smoking a joint
RB> while the politicians play budget and election games with people's
RB> lives? Yes, I do.
So do I, but that doesn't change the fact that I have to make my own
decisions and be prepared to face the results of those decisions.
