Fear and acceptance.  Fear about *not* being a gangmember in an area
where gangs are prevalent.  (Something about being beaten up and
harassed by both sides of the conflict.) Acceptance meaning  by a peer
group and having friends (even when those friends[?] are not really
looking out for your best interests).
