IMNSHO, N64 is a much more child-like system than the PSX. It costs more. 
Buy
an N64 and Mario: 214.95, PSX and Crash: 169.95)
It has a terrible selection of games (RPG's, anyone?)
The games it does have could never near the caliber of FF7, Intelligent Qube,
Parappa (well, maybe Parappa ;) ), and Crash 2.
