Welcome to AIRGUN*HQ's AIRGUN LIST!
Rules and guidelines for the AIRGUN LIST
AIRGUN.LIST, the Internet version of the AirPower Airguns message
base, is now being distributed throughout the Internet as an Email
discussion list.
The purpose of the AIRGUN.LIST is to serve users throughout
the world interested in the pleasures of shooting and collecting
precision adult airguns. Activities covered include collecting,
silhouette, field target shooting,small game hunting, pest control,
and many technical and legal issues. Precision airgunning represents
shooting pleasure on a human scale, without the excess power, noise,
smoke, and harsh recoil of firearms. It is now one of the fastest
growing of the shooting sports, with enthusiasts throughout the world.
Rules for the AIRGUN.LIST:
Any post having anything to do with air rifles, air pistols,
the use of, shooting of, collecting of, or in any way related to
airguns, is welcome! Questions,
statements, opinions, product reviews, news, requests for local
shoot info, match dates, places to shoot, clubs, and the like will
all be considered on-topic. PAINTBALL discussion is discouraged.
HOBBIES and PAINTBALL are two FIDONET echoes where
Paintball is discussed. Feel free to make an inquiry of others
about Paintball, but then please take all discussion about
Paintball gaming to one of these two echoes. Technical
discussion of Paintball GUNS alone is on topic in the AIRGUN.LIST.
FLAMES
~~~~~~
As with most other echoes,newsgroups, and lists, flaming and
personal attacks will not be allowed and you will be directed to
take such to private email with the parties involved.
QUOTING
~~~~~~~
When replying to message, it is proper to quote a small
portion of the other message so that others will be able to follow
the thread. It is NOT necessary, nor is it desirable to quote an
entire message, or too large a portion of an original message. It
is considered the height of bad form to quote an entire message of
perhaps 50 lines, than add a small reply like, "I agree."
Generally quote only a small significant part of the original
message. NEVER quote any part of a signature file!
FORMATS & FILE ATTACHES
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Make sure your mail program is configured to send messages in
ASCII, or it may be called TEXT. In other words, don't send
messages in HTML, MIME or Rich Text Format (RTF). The LISTSERV does not
support it, and they only increase bandwidth without adding
anything to the meaning of the printed word. Also please do not
attach files to your messages. If you wish to email an attached
file to someone, send them directly. The reasons for this are
two-fold, one, it too greatly increases bandwidth and it's likely
that not everyone on the list will be interested, and two, because
emailed file attaches are a way to transmit virus programs and
trojan horses to other computers. A corollary to this is that you
should NEVER open an emailed file attach unless it is something
you are expecting, from someone you know and trust.
OWNERSHIP OF MATERIAL YOU SUBMIT
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
All material submitted to the airgun.list becomes the
property of AirPower Information Services and may be used by same
without restriction and without compensation to the submitter. As
a result, you should not submit material or ideas if you wish to
retain ownership of control over distribution of such ideas and
material.
HANDLES
~~~~~~~
Handles are discouraged in the AIRGUN.LIST. Please tell us
your real name!
THE SUBJECT OF YOUR MESSAGE
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Please make sure that the SUBJECT: field of your message
actually relates to the text of your message! Update your
SUBJECT: field as often as your topic changes. Many people do not
have time to read every message and depend on scanning SUBJECTS to
filter their mail.
*** UNSUBSCRIBING ***
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
* To unsubscribe from one of our Email lists, send email to:
* LISTSERV@airgunhq.com and place the line UNSUBSCRIBE
* in the text of the message.
OTHER STUFF
~~~~~~~~~~~
If a situation arises where it becomes necessary to comment on a
message's format or content, please leave that to the moderator.
Things we have seen discussed in other echos and lists include
excessive quoting, spelling errors, indentation of the left margin,
problems with the origin line, etc. You will not see these things
discussed openly; they are handled via email to the appropriate
person, when necessary. It is a violation of the list rules to
remind another participant that they are in violation of the list
rules. Leave it to the moderator.
This moderator has seen many forums stifled out of existence
due to over moderation and too much attention to rules. As Mark
Twain said, "Everything in moderation, exspecially moderation!"
