First of all, you can't say "the union today" as there are a number of
different kinds of unions. I will agree that the one of the huge unions, like
the Teamsters, is totally corrupt at the higher levels and is just a business
in and of itself. Most unions today are in bed with the company, and this is
not an accident. It is the result of years and years of corporate attacks on
working class organization. However, there are unions like the IWW who focus
on
decentralized direct action to get the job done, with very little union dues.

Okay, but SOMEONE has to work those jobs. See what I mean? Someone will
always
have to be the janitor, or the McDonald's worker, or whatever - and another
thing, there will ALWAYS be someone who will be working that job, because
there
will always be a lower class. So it doesn't really matter that you think
saving
your money is the answer, because the society YOU support creates poverty.

This is nothing but western arrogance. If the Nike sweatshops in Vietnam are
filled with employees, it is not because they are getting a good wage, it is
because they finally have the chance to have SOME wage. Of course, in the
long-term, Nike's involvement will only encourage government corruption,
inflation, class stratification, and eventual depression when they move their
factory to the next depressed Third World country. Perhaps you hadn't
noticed,
but most Third World countries HATE the United States, burning our flag and
robbing tourists. It is the U$A and its corporations that have supported
Third
World dictatorships, Third World death squads, insurrections of
popularly-elected governments, etc.
