Hello Roy,

RM>> That said, I had fun on the one W95 pc in the workshop today. I
RM>> tried to start PCAnywhere95 (pain in neck, but that's another
 RM>> story)

CB>> On an 8 meg PC? ROFL!

 RM> the workshop machine is a Pox120 with 32M

Something wrong there. I've running "95" as both a fileserver
for two other PC's and my mail/internet PC (486 with 32M), and
performance, while not blindingly fast, is quite acceptable.

RM>> and was told that one of its DLLs was missing. So I fired up
RM>> Explorer (son of that useless fossil File Manager) to look for
 RM>> it.

CB>> Using a real file manager, like Xtree, will find it in 3 seconds
CB>> if it's anywhere on the HDD.

RM> Is there an Xtree for Win95?

Symatec has dropped the product, fearing it would lose it sales
of the norton file manager (YUK!) replacement. However, someone
wrote a shareware clone of DOS Xtree.. for Win95.

Apart from the clunky ZIP file support, it works quite well.
Identical (almost) to the DOS version, but supports long
file names - and no memory limitations.

It's a "console" app - in other words, a textmode winapp (95 or NT).

ZTW105.ZIP I can send it email if you know someone on
the internet, or put it up for FREQ here (about 300K zipped).

RM> I use the dos Xtg2 on this machine in
 RM> preference to FileMisManager.

I've got dos xtg3 - the trusty old favourite!

RM> I picked up the first version of XtreeWin,

So did I - what a pile of crap eh? Mine ended up being used for
it's blank diskettes!

RM> but it was a bit wooden - every click opened a new
RM> window, and pretty soon there were dozens of the little sods.

Thats the one.. easily cured with del *.* in it's directory.

Regards,
Chris.
